1 You’ve often said Cinema Center is more than just a movie theater. What does that mean in practice for how you program films, audiences and the kinds of conversations you try to create around them?

Herbig: When we are booking films, we typically like to think about the conversation or community benefit it can create.

For instance, I know there are people who would think it strange that Cinema Center would show “Wicked: For Good.” However, we have been able to collect over a hundred toys for children spending the holidays in a YWCA shelter as well as donations for Amani Family Services with those screenings.

For us, screening the film is the start of something. We want to be a force for good in our community.
